This is part three of a series designed to help you get to know Dennis and Christine and what drives them to be the best insurance agents in Southeastern Wisconsin.
This week’s question is: Introduce yourself:
I started the Richards Group Agency in Waukesha in the spring of 2016 after leaving a corporate position after 18 years. It was always my dream to open up my own small business. I thought about doing it for years and finally pulled the trigger because I didn’t want to retire with a “what if” question. My wife Christine quit her job and joined me in this business and the rest is history!
We have 5 children (Megan (25), Lauren (19), Jack (17), Nathan (15), and Hailee (12) as well as a Cocker Spaniel named Lucky. Between work, sports, and school schedules- we are a very busy family.
I love U.S. History, specifically World War II history and would like to go to Europe to see some of the old war grounds someday.
With my schedule, I don’t get a chance to watch much TV, but I love Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead, and Shark Tank. I’ve tried to get into Game of Thrones, but I keep falling asleep! Maybe I will give it another shot this summer.
Of course, my favorite sports teams are the Brewers, Bucks, Packers, and Badgers.
The best part about being a family business is that we get very involved in local community non-profit groups. We have volunteered with The Women’s Center, the Fisher House, Ronald McDonald House, HAWS of Waukesha Humane Society, and American Red Cross. We are blessed to live in a wonderful community and it feels great to give back to some of our local groups.
That’s a little about me. Hopefully, I get to get to know you a little better soon too! Please give us a call!
Hi, I’m Christine- and ditto to the first two paragraphs to Dennis’ introduction!
What you may not know about me yet is that I started out as a high school business/marketing teacher. In fact, I got my undergraduate degree at UW-Whitewater and student taught in Beloit, WI before teaching in the Waterloo School District, Cudahy School District, School District of Brown Deer, and New Berlin School District. My favorite thing ever was working specifically in Waterloo and Brown Deer with their very motivated business and marketing students in their FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), DECA (An Association of Marketing Students), and ABS (Association of Business Students) chapters. I was able to take them to national leadership conferences, host amazing community service events that they planned and executed, and they competed at the state and even international level.
I will always be so proud of my former students who gave me some of the best experiences of my life. I hope they are proud of themselves too!
Being a former teacher has helped me in this business because I think I am passionate about helping people understand something that most people don’t really enjoy and aren’t particularly excited about learning about (like most high school students feel about most things!!) Yet- understanding your insurance policies is something that most people should probably know at least a little bit about- enough to be dangerous.. as the expression goes…
So I’m a former teacher. I’m a mom. And in my “spare time” I like to write, volunteer, do puzzles, and I also sell doTerra essential oils. (If that is something you are interested in, you can follow me on Instagram #getoilywithchristine or visit my website). I’m currently starting a non-profit organization to support youth and young adult survivors of sexual trauma and when I grow up I want to have published a book.
Thank you for getting to know us. We both work really hard at taking care of you insurance needs.
